Nothing CEO Carl Pei stated that the Nothing Phone (2) won’t launch anytime soon and then announced the launch of the same just a few weeks after that at MWC 2023. The brand also confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will be a premium flagship smartphone and will be better than the Phone (1) in every aspect.
Unlike the Nothing Phone (1), which was limited to select markets like India and Europe, with the Phone (2) the company is entering the North American territory and is likely to position the Nothing Phone (2) against Samsung Galaxy and Apple iPhones of the world.
With the launch just around the corner, there is a lot of information available on what to expect from the upcoming smartphone and here is everything we know so far about the Nothing Phone (2):
Nothing Phone (2) design
The Nothing Phone (2) is likely to follow the Nothing Phone (1)’s footprint and will continue to offer a unique design with a transparent back and Glyph lighting. The device is also speculated to include a slightly better display, possibly with a higher resolution and brightness.
The new and improved Glyph lighting on the back could get additional capabilities, and the phone is also expected to offer an improved IP rating for water and dust resistance. While the form factor of the Nothing Phone (2) might remain identical to the Nothing Phone (1), it is likely to have newer design cues, including a uniquely positioned camera island and the phone is also speculated to be available in more colour options when compared to the Phone (1), which comes in modest black and white options.
Nothing Phone (2) cameras
The Nothing Phone (2), being dubbed as a flagship offering is likely to feature a triple camera setup, possibly with a dedicated wide, ultra-wide, and a telephoto lens. Similarly, the phone is expected to feature a new and improved selfie camera. As per the leaks, the phone could come with three 50 MP sensors, where, the telephoto and wide-angle sensors will have OIS. Similarly, the phone is speculated to offer a 16 MP selfie camera.
While the video recording capabilities on the Nothing Phone (1) were limited to 4K, the Nothing Phone (2) is most likely to support up to 8K resolution video recording.
Nothing Phone (2) hardware
At MWC, the company confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will be based on a Snapdragon 8 series chip. The brand has now unveiled that the phone will feature the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Although it’s not the latest and greatest from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is known for its performance and power efficiency, and it will also help the company to price the device more competitively.
Similarly, the phone is expected to offer at least 8 GB of RAM, possibly the LPDDR5x type and the high-end variant might offer 12 GB of memory. For the storage, we can expect the Nothing Phone (2) to come in at least two configurations, offering UFS 3.1-based 128 GB and 256 GB of internal storage.
Some reports also suggest that the Nothing Phone (2) might feature a 5,000 mAh battery, possibly with support for slightly faster wired and wireless charging capabilities. However, just like the company’s first phone, the brand might not include a charger in the retail box.
Nothing Phone (2) software
Nothing is one of the first brands to announce Android 14 beta and given the launch of the Phone (2) is still a few months away, the device is expected to ship with Android 14 out-of-the-box. Several reports also suggest that the company has hired many software developers and engineers who worked for OnePlus to design and develop software for Nothing Phone (2).
Even if the phone launches with Android 13, the device is likely to receive Android 14 as an update within the first few weeks of its launch.
Nothing Phone (2) launch date, expected price
The company has confirmed that the Nothing Phone (2) will launch in summer 2023, hence, the device is likely to go official by July or August. When it comes to pricing, the Nothing Phone (2) will definitely cost a lot more than the Phone (1) and in India, the device could cost around Rs 50,000 and might be available exclusively on Flipkart.
