MS Dhoni discusses Matheesha Pathirana’s IPL 2023 debut performance:
Former Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni, the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), praised Sri Lankan spinner Matheesha Pathirana for his performance in IPL 2023 in a match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Dhoni, however, cautioned that Pathirana shouldn’t even get close to red-ball cricket at this stage of his career.

Despite MS Dhoni discusses Matheesha Pathirana’s performance in IPL, Dhoni cautioned against rushing Pathirana into red-ball cricket at this stage of his career. He said that Pathirana needs to work on his fitness and his skills before he can be considered for Test cricket. Dhoni also pointed out that Pathirana has only played a handful of T20 games so far. He has to gain more experience before making the jump to longer formats.
Overall, Dhoni was pleased with Pathirana’s performance in the IPL and praised the young pacer for his potential. However, he cautioned against rushing him into Test cricket and stressed the importance of giving him time to develop his skills.
